We are in Fort Lauderdale now.
Arrived July 2004. We are living
aboard THE MENDOCINO
QUEEN in a peaceful canal just off
the intercoastal waterway. We
bicycle to beautiful beaches, a great
library, lots of shops and work.
Allen, at first, worked at West
Marine, in their Flagship Store as
Manager of Electronics and Kate

Bluewater and spend our winters in
Florida and our summers in New

Since we had been gone so long we
no longer had drivers licenses so
had to go take the driving test at Fla
DMV. Happily we passed and now
have a Isuzu Rodeo. An Isuzu

THE MENDOCINO QUEEN is over 30 yrs old now and is requiring some refits. Since arriving almost five years
ago we have replaced the four big batteries, the refrigeration system, the stove, the inverter, the head, the
mattress, the water heater, the computer, the engine mounts, the propeller, the coupler, and the shaft.. All the
halyards and sheets are new and many blocks replaced. The anchor chain is new and rust free. We've rebuilt the
engine beds and the mast's compression post, refastened the cap rails, stanchions and bow sprit. The whisker stays
and bob stay are new, built of chain and painted a sinister black Painted the decks and house with awlgrip, replaced
the three water tanks and all the pumps and hoses and added a great sound system using powered speakers that can
play from almost any source; a tiny ipod to a computer .
In 2008 we broke the boom on our way to Newport, had a new one built and shipped to us at Newport Shipyard.
In 2009 we added a radar/solar array arch and put 2 new state of the art solar panel up there along with a new radar.
The new solar array powers all of the boats DC needs, including refrigeration/freezer, and all navigation equipment.
There is still a project list but it's shorter than it was when we arrived.
We bought a TV and a DVD player when we arrived in Florida and threw them in the dumpster when we last left
Florida. Have not missed them at all.
